“The best way to not feel hopeless is to get up and do something. Don’t wait for good things to happen to you. If you go out and make some good things happen, you will fill the world with hope, you will fill yourself with hope.”
― Barack Obama
As an HHStudent, you’ll make an invaluable positive difference in the lives of your host family members, especially your little brother or sister—far beyond mere childcare or English teaching. While it’s certainly true that your family will greatly appreciate your linguistic abilities and responsible guidance, that’s only the beginning. Many Chinese children have no siblings as a direct result of the one-child policy, and would love a foreign big brother or sister to keep them company. Your international experiences will expand your host sibling’s horizons, and prepare them for our increasingly globalized world from an early age. Furthermore, your unique skills and talents will inspire your host sibling to live up to you as a positive role model. The relationship between you and your host sibling is possibly the single most rewarding and educational aspect of the entire HHStudent experience, and exemplifies our core principle of Helping.
